Custom Landscape Design & Installation

Three generations of craftsmanship — serving Sugar Land, Missouri City and Sienna since 1994.

A well-designed outdoor space changes how you use your home — extending square footage, framing the view, creating quiet retreats and gathering places that work for the way your family actually uses the yard.

We've been designing and installing landscapes here for more than 30 years. Three generations of family ownership. Every project handled by our own team from the first property walk through final installation. Deep familiarity with the climate, soil and HOA standards of this part of Fort Bend County.

A Single Team. From First Walk to Final Touch.

Many landscape projects fall apart in the handoff — between the designer who drew the plan and the contractor who installs it, between the contractor who installs it and the team who maintains it. Vision gets lost. Details get missed. Accountability blurs.

The same family business handles every stage. Our team walks your property and shapes the design with you. Our crew installs it. Our maintenance team keeps it looking the way it was meant to. One company, three generations deep in this market, accountable to you from first walk to final touch.

Locally rooted. Three generations deep. Built for the long haul.

What We Design & Install

Every project is custom — we don't sell pre-built packages. These are the services that come up most often.

Full Landscape Design

Full-scope projects — from initial concept through plant selection, custom flower beds and final installation. Ideal for new home builds, backyard renovations and properties that need a fresh start.

Walkways & Stone Borders

Flagstone paths, paver walkways, stone borders and small retaining walls. Hardscape touches that define garden beds, connect outdoor spaces and add structure to your landscape — sized to enhance your property without overpowering it.

Outdoor Lighting

Custom landscape lighting design — path lighting, accent lighting for trees and architecture, security lighting and entertaining areas. LED systems that disappear by day and earn their keep at night.

Drainage & Soil Solutions

French drains, regrading and soil amendments built for Houston's clay-heavy soil and storm season. Protect your landscape investment by solving the water and soil issues most homeowners don't see until something fails.

Sod Installation & Lawn Restoration

Patch repairs, full lawn replacement and new sod installations. Restoring tired lawns to healthy turf with the right grass for your property's sun, soil and watering conditions.

Ongoing Property Care

Beyond the install: quarterly cleanups, bi-annual mulching, shrub and tree trimming, seasonal color rotations and detail work that keeps your landscape looking the way it was designed to. Custom care schedules built around your property and the season.

Our Process

Every project moves through four stages — each handled by the same family team, with you in the loop at every step.

1

Property Walk

We meet you at your property and walk the space with you. We talk through what you're picturing, how you use the space, and what's possible within the scale of your project. Complimentary and unhurried — typically 30-45 minutes.

2

Concept & Proposal

Within about a week of the property walk, you'll receive a detailed, itemized proposal by email — plant selections, hardscape materials, lighting, labor and scope, line by line. Visual references are included when they help you picture the finished space.

3

Refinement

We talk through the proposal together and refine the details — scope, materials, phasing, timing. Every project is dialed in to match your priorities and budget before any installation begins.

4

Installation & Care

Our own crew installs the work — plant sourcing, hardscape construction, lighting and final cleanup. Once the project is complete, ongoing maintenance plans are available to keep your landscape looking the way it was designed to.

Why Homeowners Choose Lawn John for Design

Three Generations of Local Knowledge

Since 1994, three generations of our family have designed landscapes across Sugar Land, Missouri City and Sienna. We know which plants thrive here, which struggle and what each neighborhood's HOA actually allows. That knowledge gets baked into every design.

One Team, Start to Finish

From the first property walk through installation and ongoing care, you work with the same family-owned team. No handoffs to subcontractors, no shifting points of contact, no "the designer said one thing and the installer did another."

Built for Houston Weather

Heavy clay soil. Long summers. Hard freezes. Hurricane season. Every plant selection, drainage decision and material choice accounts for what your property actually faces — not what looks good in a Pinterest photo.

Ongoing Relationship

A landscape installation isn't the end — it's the beginning. We offer ongoing maintenance plans so the design you invested in stays beautiful, season after season. Three generations deep, accountable from install through care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive a formal landscape architect drawing?

Most clients don't require formal architectural drawings — those are typically produced by a licensed landscape architect at significant additional cost. Our process delivers a detailed, itemized proposal with visual references where helpful, refined together until it matches what you're picturing. If your project requires architect-level documentation, we'll talk through that during the property walk.

How much does a landscape project cost?

Project costs vary based on scope, materials and property size. Plant bed refreshes and seasonal color typically start around $1,500. Mid-scale work like front yard refreshes, drainage solutions and sod installation generally falls in the $2,500–$15,000 range depending on scope. Full backyard transformations start around $3,500 and scale up from there based on materials and complexity. After the property walk, you'll receive a detailed itemized proposal so every line is clear.

Is the property walk complimentary?

Yes. The initial property walk is complimentary. We come to your home, walk the space with you and talk through what you're picturing. If we're a fit, we follow up with a detailed proposal — no obligation.

Do you work within HOA guidelines?

Yes. We've worked with most HOAs across Sugar Land, Missouri City and Sienna — including Sienna Plantation, First Colony, Riverstone, Greatwood, Telfair and many others. We design with HOA guidelines in mind and can help you prepare any approval submissions your community requires.

Do you handle both the design and the installation?

Yes. The same family business that designs your project also installs it — no subcontractor handoff, no shifting point of contact. One team from the first property walk through the final walkthrough, and ongoing care plans available afterward.

Do you only work in Sugar Land, Missouri City and Sienna?

Those are our primary markets — where most of our landscape work happens and where we know the neighborhoods, soils and HOA standards best. We also take projects throughout Fort Bend County and we're open to ambitious projects across the greater Houston area. If you have something in mind, give us a call and we'll talk it through.

Will my new landscape need ongoing maintenance?

Most landscape installations benefit from regular maintenance to stay at their best. We offer ongoing care plans designed specifically around your installation, so the space you invested in continues to look the way it was meant to season after season.

Do you handle landscape updates for homeowners getting ready to sell?

Yes. We've helped many homeowners get their property ready to list, and we love being part of making your home show its best before it hits the market. Fresh plantings, bed refreshes, mulch and edging and structural cleanup can make a real difference in how buyers see the property. We work directly with homeowners and are also happy to coordinate with your real estate agent on timing and priorities.
